Even though the 2011 Shelby GT500 carries a base price of $49,495 without any options ticked, Ford has already received more than 3,000 orders for the 550HP Mustang since the car was announced earlier this year. But despite the sales success, the Deaborn-based automaker said today that U.S. sales of the 2011 Shelby GT500 will be limited to just 5,500 units for this model year.
The Ford Mustang is one of the U.S. car manufacturer Ford built in 1964 for sports cars and the ancestor of the pony car class. As the name "Mustang" by the company Krupp and Kreidler was protected under trademark law, "the Mustang was in T5 Germany as" displaced. And while we never saw something of the sort officially from Ford, an independent custom shop actually realized the idea with the 2005 Ford Mustang 'Vanquishd' show car that was presented at the 2006 SEMA aftermarket gathering. Built by Western Motorsports, this one-of-a-kind Mustang gets a 6.0-liter V12 engine with 600 ponies from a 2001 Aston Martin Vanquish. Power is sent to the chunky rear wheels through a 6 speed manual Tremec T-56 transmission.

A 1:64 scale die-cast version of the yet to be revealed 2010 Ford Mustang emerged on eBay this past weekend only to be removed by its Malaysian seller on Monday. While we cannot be 100 percent sure, from the looks of it, the slightly (ab)used Hot Wheels-branded toy version of the new Mustang GT appears to be a prototype model that somehow escaped from Mattel's factory.
